Community Fisheries
Giving coastal communities the tools and the voice to protect the fisheries they depend on.
For many families in Zanzibar, fishing provides both food and income. Healthy oceans matter to coastal communities every day.
Through our Community Fisheries Co-Management programme, we work alongside fishers and local authorities to support the sustainable management of coastal resources. We collect fisheries data and hold community discussions, helping communities better understand their resources and have a stronger voice in decisions that affect them.
By combining local knowledge with scientific data, we aim to support better fisheries management, healthier marine ecosystems and more resilient coastal communities.

Sea Cucumber Farm
Empowering local women to build sustainable livelihoods through sea cucumber farming.
What if protecting the ocean could also support a family's income? That is what our sea cucumber farm is working towards: a new source of income for coastal communities that takes pressure off wild stocks.
Ten women from Kiwengwa are at the heart of the farm. We train them in monitoring and farm management, building the skills to run it on their own. The approach is grounded in science and was shaped with local communities.
Our goal is for the women to fully own the farm, creating a steady income for their households and keeping the benefits in the community.
